The Side Street Project: An Update To My ‘Best Of 2006’ Entry

Thursday, April 10, 2008

Last year when I wrote about my best concerts of 2006, high up on the list at number 5 was a triple bill of Emm Gryner, Buck 65 and Holy Fuck @ Cherry Beach Studios. The show was being taped for a TV show/DVD called The Side Street Project that has yet to be released. It was a mind blowing concert that I still proudly gloat about attending to this day.

A long while after writing the article, one of the producers of the show commented on the page and contacted me via email. Since then they have kept me updated on going-ons regarding the taping. Recently they sent me over some links to videos from that night posted on YouTube.

Here for your enjoyment I give to you some examples of why I loved the show so much:

Holy Fuck performing “Lovely Allen:”

Holy Fuck, Buck 65 and Emm Gryner performing a really cool and fresh version of Deff Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me:”

So are they going to do another one?

And why did it take them so long to get this out?

Our pilot show was self-financed and now we’re working at finding a good home for both the pilot and a series. Of course we would love to be shooting the series right now. We don’t want to compromise the integrity of the idea, and we’ve had suggestions from certain directions to make it more of a reality show, y’know, with winners and losers and more chat than music. But we believe in the concept we have, which focuses on the craft of musicianship, performance and songwriting and takes a glimpse at what it’s like to be a musician, and that there is an audience out there for our show.

Thanks for your support – it means a lot to us. We’ll keep you posted.

Oh god, yeah — a reality show would be awful. Keep at it — hopefully you’ll find something soon.
